5 Foods That Lower Testosterone Levels

Alcohol

You might think that a glass of liquor after work is only beneficial, but if hormonal balance is your top priority, then either completely avoid alcohol or truly limit yourself to just one glass.

The same endorphins released during alcohol consumption, which boost mood, also kill testosterone at the cellular level. Additionally, these liquid calories rapidly hypertrophy the waistline, which later reduces testosterone levels.

Soy

Apologies, dear vegans, but this isn’t the healthiest food. Of course, there are many contradictions in research results (perhaps because they might be sponsored by vegans), but until the discovery by scientists at Colorado State University is refuted, consuming large amounts of soy has been found to produce a hormone-like substance called equol in the intestines, which reduces testosterone levels.

Sugary Beverages

Sugary carbonated drinks introduce a significant amount of sugar into the body. According to an Oxford University study, men who consumed 75 grams of pure sugar per day saw their testosterone levels decrease by an average of 25%. One bottle of cola contains 39 grams of sugar, so just a few bottles a day significantly suppress your “masculinity.”

Cookies

For many, the only way to relieve stress during the day might be a cup of coffee with a fresh cookie or some other sweet treat. But besides sugar, such “saviors” also contain TRANS fats, which are part of margarine and other baking mixes. According to a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, trans fats negatively affect testosterone production.

Flax Seeds

Although recently there has been a lot of talk about the positive aspects of flax seeds (and they contain a lot of omega-3 fatty acids), studies from the Duke University Medical Center have shown that flax is rich in a chemical substance called lignan, which contributes to the reduction of testosterone levels in all male participants. So, it’s better to avoid them.
